Sometimes finding flats that suit your feet is as simple as trying on the first pair in the store and then other times it’s not quite as easy as that. For a girl like me who has been wearing Bloch ballet flats for her entire life, with the only major changes being from leather to canvas and full to split-sole, change is a little daunting. That’s over 15 years of Bloch shoes after all!
We’re in a busy period with the company at the moment and the situation with my shoes was getting dire. I’ve been wearing shoes with holes for quite a few weeks now and with no time to make it to Bloch and a trip to Energetiks for pointe shoes already planned I decided to bite the bullet and just get flats whilst I was there.
The shoes themselves are quite a white canvas, similar to the colour of the Energetiks point shoes. They feel quite soft, with soft suede soles and with a single elastic. A simple and classic style of flat shoe. Though for me one of the first issues with the shoes is actually the single elastic, I would definitely be adding a second elastic to the shoes if I’d decided to make them a long term wear. I actually bought these a few weeks ago now and have since stopped wearing them. After the first wear I realised that they just weren’t quite right for my feet. They’re a little tight around the metatarsal area with just slightly too much fabric at the heel -seam. This gives the shoe a slightly triangular look in the heel when I point my feet. Maybe if my feet weren’t as arched they might not look as odd but there’s just something that makes them sit not quite right on my feet. The tightness in the bunion area actually made it a little uncomfortable to go onto demi pointe as well as it was crushing my metatarsals together.
In saying that, the shoes might just need some time to stretch out a little and become softer and mould to the feet a little better. The make of the shoes themselves are comfortable but they just don’t work on my feet personally. Though if you are looking for am inexpensive pair of beginner shoes these could be your best bet, coming in at a wholesale price of just $29.95. Just make sure to get them fitted first!
And yes this does mean I’ve gone back to my holey shoes but since no one has mentioned it yet I think I’m getting away with it!
